Penumbra

Penumbra is a collaborative artists’ book edition by Carrie Scanga and Rebecca Goodale, inspired by the rare experience of the 2024 solar eclipse in Maine. Both artists witnessed the eclipse from different vantage points—Rebecca from the shoreline and Carrie from the woods near her home—each immersed in the fleeting strangeness of totality.

Blending memory with imagination, they translated that surreal moment into a uniquely structured book, adorned with blue and silver engravings that evoke the eclipse experience’s otherworldly atmosphere.
